The world mourns Mandela
Lilongwe, Malawi, December 9, 2013: Malawi,s Vice President Khumbo Hastings Kachali writes in the condolence book at the South African High Commission in Lilongwe, Malawi December 9, 2013 following the death of former South African President Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela who was the country’s first Democratic and post apartheid President. Mandela, an international icon died on December 5, 2013 and millions of people around the world are mourning and paying tribute to this great son of Africa who fought apartheid in his country. In his own words accompanying his portrait hanging in the condolence room Mandela said: “During my life time, I have dedicated myself to the struggle of the African people. I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.” PHOTO AMOS GUMULIRA.
