Cross Border Soccer

Bo-Young Stars players welcome Gohn United players to the Bo Waterside border post ahead of their friendly in Bo, Grand Cape Mount County, Liberia on August 18, 2010. Cross Border soccer is a vital instrument through which peace and security is maintained along the border of Liberia and Sierra Leone. In the early 1980's, the relationship between the two countries soured after a qualifier match in Freetown in which several Liberian players and officials were brutally attacked. As a result, the Government of Liberia ordered the closure of the Mano River Union Border post.
