Cross Border Soccer
Caption:
A police officer addressing players of Bo-Young Stars FC (Liberia) as they cross the border to play a friendly against Jendemah United FC (S/Leone) at the border town of Jedemah, Pujehun, Sierra Leone on August 10, 2010. Cross Border soccer is a vital instrument through which peace and security is maintained along the border of Liberia and Sierra Leone. In the early 1980's, the relationship between the two countries soured after a qualifier match in Freetown in which several Liberian players and officials were brutally attacked. As a result, the Government of Liberia ordered the closure of the Mano River Union Border post.
