Only Female footballer propels Malawi Street Soccer team to success in World Cup:

Twenty-nine year old Bridget Chongo is the only female player in Malawi’s Street Soccer Team for the Homeless.

Though married to Nason Sani, with two daughters; Trizza, eight, and Tendai, four, Bridget still keeps her football skills highly competitive against those of her male counterparts.

When she was included in the Malawi squad that went to participate in the World Street Soccer Cup for the Homeless in Italy early September, 2009, Bridget proved her ability to propel the team to success when she scored two goals, one each against Belgium and Germany.

The goal she scored against Germany caused Malawi win with one goal to nil and was crucial because it boosted the overall FIFA ranking of the Malawi Street Soccer Team from position 40 before the world cup to No. 18.

Bridget’s football skills have developed beyond just playing but have earned her the position of a coach for children, including her two daughters, who learn football skills through the Play Soccer Malawi Project.

Her family has turned into a model soccer playing family among her community as her husband, Nason Sani also plays social football.
