Maasai Cricket Warriors

Images of the Maasai Cricket Warriors who are from the Laikipia region of Kenya and they were in Cape Town to participate in the Last Man Stands World Championships. Last Man Stands is a form of cricket in which teams comprising of eight players compete during two innings of twenty overs each. During the course of the Maasai Cricket Warriors team played against other amateur teams from South Africa, the UK, Dubai and Australia. None of the team members had travelled to other countries until they travelled to Cape Town to participate in this tournament, hosted by the Western Province Cricket Club. The players use the cricket team and the media attention that they receive in order to campaign against HIV, FGM (Female genital mutilation and child marriage, all of which impact negatively on the communities where they live. Through their participation in this sport the players hope to promote healthier lifestyle choices and spread awareness of HIV/AIDS amongst the youth from all parts of the world.(Sean Wilson)
