Archbishop Desmond Tutu - 30 year anniversary of receiving the Nobel Peace Prize
Archbishop Desmond Tutu, born 7 October 1931 was an outspoken opponent of apartheid and the first black archbishop of Cape Town. He received the Nobel Peace Prize on 16 October 1984. He is one of the fathers of the "Rainbow Nation" of South Africa.

Bishop Desmond Tutu speaking against 'necklacing' at mass funeral held shortly after the 21st July 1985 State of Emergency and the recent necklacing of Maki Skosana. KwaThema held rent boycotts as part of the protest against Apartheid appointed municipal councillors. There were frequent clashes between the police and youth in the area.

23-June 2010 Archbishop Desmond Tutu, his wife Mrs Leah Tutu and Tannie Evita Bezuidenhout attended a ceremony to bless Darling's swimming pool and community Health, Sport and Education centre. The centre hosts an Early Childhood Development Centre, Art and music classes for children and literacy programmes. Archbishop Tutu is the Patron of the Darling Pool Project and the Darling Trust that was established in August 2003 by Evita Bezuidenhout's alter ego, the actor, satirist Pieter-Dirk Uys. ( Pieter Dirk-Uys is the founding member, former trustee and present patron of the Trust) . The swimming pool and centre were openedon 16 December 2009, Reconciliation Day. Darling, a small West coast village , Western Cape, South Africa
23.06.2010. A painting by a child or two children named Shante and Beaunique painted at the community Health, Sport and Education centre in Darling, Western Cape. The painting was one of many paintings by the children on the wall to welcome Bishop Tutu ( archbishop Desmond Tutu) to the ceremony to bless the centre and the community swimming pool. "God dreams that, like any family, we will learn to love each other and live in peace together.”

The service at St george's cathedral was to honour the legacy of Ma Sisulu, as she was affectinately called .
